    Opposition View - Wolverhampton Wanderers

I made the relatively short journey up the M6 to Wolverhampton for this weeks opposition view. I found myself on Wolverhampton Wanderers Fans Forum - Discuss Wolves Here! - The Wolves Forum, a big thanks to all of there members for making me feel welcome and taking the time to answer my questions.

As ever I asked a set of questions and along the way got talking about other things here is there thoughts on them, us, the game and Karl Henry !!!

Here's the questions and the replies

    1. How do you think Wolves have done so far this season, and where do you think you will finish in the table ?

    2. Who is your star man at the moment ? anyone we should watch out for ?

    3. What are your views on the Mick McCarthy, is he the right man for the job or is he on borrowed time ?

    4. What are your views on Stoke City ?

    5. Which (if any) Stoke player(s) would have at Wolves?

    6. What is your score prediction ?

    North West Wanderer

Hi everybody, Potters fan in peace here,

Looking forward to out game at the weekend ? Hoping for a good game, were just starting to find some form again, unfortunatly we play in Europe on Wednesday and we have only won once in the game after Europe all season !

Anyway down to the reason I am here, I have just launched a brand new forum for Stoke fans called Potters-Online and we hope to do a regular opposition view feature.

If you wouldn't mind answering a few questions for me and I will pop back on later in the week to pick up the responses, Of course I will add a link to the forum in the post as well.

    1. How do you think Wolves have done so far this season, and where do you think you will finish in the table ?

We've done ok - statistically our best start to a Premier League season. Dreadfully inconsistent!!I can see us 14th - 15th.

    2. Who is your star man at the moment ? anyone we should watch out for ?

Steven Fletcher - top player, Jarvis is coming back to form too.

    3. What are your views on the Mick McCarthy, is he the right man for the job or is he on borrowed time ?

Traditionally I'm a huge Mick fan. However I've wavered a bit recently. More 80/20 than 100% for him. Top man, think he lacks occasionally in the tactics department.

    4. What are your views on Stoke City ?

If I am honest, loud fans, bloody boring team.

    5. Which (if any) Stoke player(s) would have at Wolves?

    Always liked Etherington.

    6. What is your score prediction ?

    2-1 Wolves

    1. How do you think Wolves have done so far this season, and where do you think you will finish in the table ?
Great start followed by a horrific run of form. We look like we're getting back into some form now, despite the weekend's result.

    2. Who is your star man at the moment ? anyone we should watch out for ?

Fletcher. Best striker in the league outside of the top six. Jarvis was outstanding at Old Trafford and Ward has been supremely consistent so far this season. Hennessey maturing into the keeper we all hoped too.

    3. What are your views on the Mick McCarthy, is he the right man for the job or is he on borrowed time ?
He's still got my backing, but it was dwindling during our horror run.

    4. What are your views on Stoke City ?
Done brilliantly to reach Europe and have performed admirably once there. Quietly getting on with it in the league.

    5. Which (if any) Stoke player(s) would have at Wolves?
    Robert Huth

    6. What is your score prediction ?
    2-1 Wolves

    1. How do you think Wolves have done so far this season, and where do you think you will finish in the table ?

Started brilliantly, but with an awful middle but for me at least there are signs that things may be getting better for us...hopefully, we'll have a brilliant ending to the pre-Christmas season as well! 13th-15th would be great for us, but wouldn't be surprised if we finished lower

    2. Who is your star man at the moment ? anyone we should watch out for ?

Normally I'd say Ward but if Jarvis plays like he did against United then he'll give you a real headache! We also have a dangerous striker in Fletcher!

    3. What are your views on the Mick McCarthy, is he the right man for the job or is he on borrowed time ?

Yeah, I'd say he's the man for the job... but as for borrowed time, I can't see him getting sacked anytime soon, even with our recent crap run of form!

    4. What are your views on Stoke City ?

Established yourselves in the PL very quickly, and that's quite the achievement - we were hoping to do the same but...

    5. Which (if any) Stoke player(s) would have at Wolves?

    Umm...Not sure on that one!

    6. What is your score prediction ?

I'd like to say 2-1 Wolves, but my prediction is a 1-1 draw...Just feel strangely pessimistic about this game for some reason!

    Welcome, sir. Stick around.

    1. How do you think Wolves have done so far this season, and where do you think you will finish in the table ?

Not as well as I'd have liked. I think we'll be okay, but we've had a shocking run of form and results that I don't think is a fair reflection of the squad we have. It's been frustrating.

    2. Who is your star man at the moment ? anyone we should watch out for ?

Fletcher without doubt. The guy is class.

    3. What are your views on the Mick McCarthy, is he the right man for the job or is he on borrowed time ?

Though opinion is split, I absolutely love the guy and hope he turns it around soon. I think he can.

    4. What are your views on Stoke City ?

Pretty rank on occasions, but have brought in some excellent players. Your lower profile acquisitions seem to work better than the bigger names. Loud fans. Horrible place. And I know that seems hypocritical being a Wolves fan.

    5. Which (if any) Stoke player(s) would have at Wolves?

Shawcross or Huth would really improve us.

    6. What is your score prediction ?

I actually think we'll win this one. 2-1 Wolves after a scrappy game. Plenty of cards.

Good luck with your European venture by the way - I actually hope you win the thing seeing as you appear to be treating the competition with respect. One of the few teams who do.

    1. How do you think Wolves have done so far this season, and where do you think you will finish in the table ?

I don't think we have played particularly well in most games and are where we deserve to be. I would say between 14th-18th, our fixtures coming up are crucial.

    2. Who is your star man at the moment ? anyone we should watch out for ?

Fletcher is our best player and is vital because without him we are toothless in attack, Jarvis looked pretty good on Saturday, Hennessey is a top goalkeeper and Ward has been very consistent.

    3. What are your views on the Mick McCarthy, is he the right man for the job or is he on borrowed time ?

Great bloke and achieved great things to get us where we are but i think he has a level and battling relegation in the premier league is it. If a better manager wanted to come i would get them but Mick is here to stay.

    4. What are your views on Stoke City ?

Not most peoples cup of tea but whatever people say Stoke are effective and have found a way to pick up points in the premier league. I quite like watching them on the t.v as it's always interesting to see how different defences try to cope with the long throws from either Delap or Shotton.

    5. Which (if any) Stoke player(s) would have at Wolves?

Etherington continues to impress me and i would take Huth and Shawcross in a heartbeat.

    6. What is your score prediction ?

I will go with 2-1 Wolves.

This idea has really taken off since last season.

Thanks for the responses already !

I know Wolves and Stoke don't see eye to eye all the time but it's good to talk with the opposition some times

We have come on leaps and bounds the last couple of weeks, our summer signings are starting to gel and we are evolving as a team, please don't be fooled into thinking we are a one trick pony, at times we play some good football. I'm not saying we are a sleeping Barca but I do think sometimes people fail to see we can play some good stuff.

I was very impressed with Jarvis at Old Trafford the other week, he looked a real threat, Hennessey is a quality keeper and I imagine you will have the same issues we will have with Begovic, the big boys will come knocking soon !

Europe - we were in with a great shout I think until the Manchester clubs dropped in, one of them is nailed on to win it now. It stinks to high heaven that LOSERS from one competition drop into another one that most teams have already played 8-10 games in to reach that stage. They had there chance, they blew it, end of in my opinion. Eufa is as bent as all the others in my opinion, teams like Stoke are only in the competition to make up the numbers until the "big boys" sort themselves out in the Champions League.

I've never seen Wolves-Stoke as a particularly big rivalry, but then again I'm from the South of Wolverhampton so I guess I don't get the Staffordshire rivalry thing.

As for Europe - many of us on here completely agree with you. City and Utd shouldn't get a 2nd attempt. It'd $#@! me off completely if we were in the competition. You and Fulham seem to treat the competition properly. 'Arry has treated it with no respect whatsoever and appears to see it as a burden. Does my head in.

    1. How do you think Wolves have done so far this season, and where do you think you will finish in the table ?

Meh, OK I suppose. We've been excellent, awful and everywhere in between. Mix that up with some terrible luck (Newcastle at Molineux, anyone), and some awful defending and it's been deeply frustrating. Before the season started, I thought we'd be OK - 14th or so. After the first three games, I thought 10th was possible. Then we went through the awful run, and I hoped for 17th. Now we're back on a bit more of an even keel, and we'll probably be OK again.

    2. Who is your star man at the moment ? anyone we should watch out for ?

Roger Johnson. Just kidding, he's been kakh. Stephen Ward has been comfortably player of the season so far, and Steven Fletcher's been scoring plenty, but statistically Milijas is the most important player we have...

    3. What are your views on the Mick McCarthy, is he the right man for the job or is he on borrowed time ?

I love Mick McCarthy. He's a great bloke, and a wonderful fit for Wolverhampton Wanderers. Every season we've had under him has seen us improve from the season before - even last season our points total was better than the previous season. The rate of improvement has slowed down since we got in the Premier League, and you certainly get games where you think Mick's reached his talent limit, and then he pulls a couple of great results out of the bag.

    4. What are your views on Stoke City ?

They're at the wrong end of Staffordshire! Seriously, for Wolves fans who live north of the city, the Staffordshire Derby is pretty important - certainly more so than games against Birmingham City or Aston Villa.

Stoke have done pretty well, results-wise since promotion, and it seems like you've got the perfect club/manager mix. Even when Stoke were doing pretty well in the old First Division in the 1970s, you didn't do as well as today.

    5. Which (if any) Stoke player(s) would have at Wolves?

I don't think there's any beyond a fit Woodgate - but that's more because you play as a team, rather than have one or two "star" players.

    6. What is your score prediction ?

Mmm, a cagey game settled by a single goal. I wouldn't mind a performance like the first game of last season, mind!
