Stoke travel to Cardiff this coming Saturday with what is another huge game in the survival race. Points will need to be picked up on this one with a few fixtures lined up afterwards against teams higher up in the table.

With the news that Ricky Martin has been sacked and replaced with Jon Walter’s, will this result in a lifted energy and enthusiasm from the playing squad? You’d like to think it could do.

It’s likely the formation that has been utilised across the last few weeks will stay, which will hopefully result in plenty of heart and some points to bring back to the Potteries.

I’m hoping for three points as we hopefully see our strongest line up back out from the beginning after a weeks break.

COYP!

You’d hope with Ricky gone the whole club has had a lift and with Jon taking his place he can implement the work rate and desire we saw from his time at the club. hopefully the players convert that into an important 3 points.

I can’t see much change in the formation but I do hope we see a more consistent lineup from now on as we are still in a relegation battle and need pick up some vital points.

I can see us picking up the win against a Cardiff team in a run of poor form themselves.

Schumacher obviously seems intent on picking his teams according to data stats and who needs a rest rather than a consistent line up. I think at Plymouth he was averaging five changes per game so it’s anyone’s guess as to the actual line up for this one. Bad in the sense we don’t get a stable team but great in the sense that the opposition have no idea who will play against them.

Assuming everyone’s data stacks up I’d go for

Bonham
Rose
McNally
Junior
Gooch
Baker
Berger
Leris
Million
Junho
Ennis

Although we lost against Cov I’m quite pleased with the last two games in terms of commitment and desire but our lack of any quality once we reach the edge of their box is a major concern.

0- 1. Junho finally getting off the mark.

Not even going to guess the line up, I suppose we will see over the next few weeks just how much tricky was meddling in things.

Cautiously optimistic about today, I think we will nick a tight game 2-1
Agreed.

I have a feeling he may go to a back 4 again today. Hence Vidigal & Tyrese being back in the squad (rumoured to be).

I’m going 3-1 with the Cardiff manager getting the sack in the next few days 👍🏻

Had a feeling we’d be back to a 4 at the back. Gutted that Laurent has been dropped for Cundle, don’t think that’s fair on performances of recent. Other than that I’m happy with that line-up 🙌🏻

We really needed that goal and so pleased that Junho is up and running.

We’ve got to move the ball quicker second half, they are sitting in and playing on the counter, got to break it down better in the next 45.

Laurent for Cundle needs to happen soon, I just don’t see what he’s adding to us at the moment 🤷‍♂️

Still in it, gooarn Stoke 🔴⚪🔴⚪

Strange half, largely frustrating to watch.

Some of the tactical set up this half has not worked in my opinion:

- Inverted full back provides nothing but an overload in the middle of the pitch. Junior hasn't been in the game at all because of it.

- Thompson playing it long to a sole Ennis up top is literally pointless. He has done it most times he has been pressed at left back. He’s really struggled so far and probably should be removed as he’s on a yellow.

- Burger has been least involved in a half since he joined us playing as a lone 6.

- Cundle playing over Laurent still proves to be a decision I can’t see the reasoning behind.

I’d drop Junho into the ten and bring another winger on for Cundle. Thompson off for Gooch.

So deflating isn’t it… there’s still some huge games to play. Unfortunately we’re in the situation where I genuinely believe the only way we stay up is because of three other teams being just as bad. We do not survive the drop based on our own merit or work, that’s for sure. What an awful reality we are seeing playing out.

I struggle to see how we can change things now, we all know we’ve not got the players for a battle anywhere in the squad, most now won’t give a shit as I’ve no doubt they have relegation release clauses in their contracts.

If it was me now I’d go back to the old school and play a very unfashionable 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 for the rest of the season, we’ve got to be solid first and foremost if we have any chance at all and hope we can create a chance or two a game to nick them.

Yep. Has to be done. There’s still some huge games to play in the run in, especially towards the final five.

I have no idea how there’s any pick up after that though. Manager seems to have tried everything and got nowhere…

Just frustrated. No other words right now 👎🏻
