Now at the tender (but dementing) age of 63 and supporting Stoke City FC for 50 years, my first game was at the age of 13 (we lost by the way) I guess I might have some experience in the shittyness of SCFC. At sixteen in 1978 I was there for the Blyth Spartans game. Turning up at Wolstanton Grammar after that game was not fun ! 12 years later we dropped down to the old third division and trust me that was fucking grim home and away. ( And don't get me started on games against the great Unwashed) I remember the holocaust season in 1884/85 and I managed to miss the bloody boxing day game too. I was there in 1998 after the team capitulated against the Brummie wankers after finding out they were all on the transfer list (I'm sure that was Moxey the fat fucking fraud) I could go on but I've seen some absolute dross both home and away. Yes I know now is complete abysmal gutless bollocks but its not at the level some wrist slitting fans would have you believe. I'm pretty much convinced we are down and the useless Spanish waiter is doomed. ( I could make Fawlty towers jokes now but we allegedly live in an enlightened, supportive and inclusive age) I get that years ago we didn't have a pot to piss in and the last 8 years we've spunked obscene money on shite but it is what it is. I always remember a good friend and an old Oatcake poster called NJKK ( Nick King and his missus were the May and Mar Lady) He was the one who walked out of the stands in a pretty shit season with a red card and sat in the centre circle. Anyroad he always said the following. " Thay may be shit, but they're our shit"

Yep similar story for me too. My dad took me in 1973, as seven year old lad. Got my first season ticket and was allowed to go with my mates in 77. I remember the Blythe Spartans night, the holocaust season, the awful garbage Alan Ball served us and all the crap since aswell as some very violent days on the road and at home with one or two glorious days chucked in too.
The games changed now, maybe I’m older and wiser and I’ve seen it all before. It’s utter tripe watching Stoke at the moment but it’s been worse. I still have a season ticket ( it’ll always be a ticket to me not a card )and I still travel to every home game, now from South Cheshire instead of Blurton. I do it because It’s Stoke City. My club, not the managers, players or even the chairman. It’s mine, it’s ours, it belongs to us the fans and one day this tide will turn, it will get better, we will celebrate again. The tide always turns…
