Considering the Oatcake is on Hunger Strike (closed to registrations) the level of traffic on here is woeful. It’s not due to the web design that’s quite user friendly. So why is it so quiet on here?

I’ve no idea what’s going on. Given that every thread on the Oatcake gets hijacked by the same posters all the time I would have thought people would love to be elsewhere. It’d be great to have more posters here that’s for sure.

I left it years ago mate, it’s been going downhill for ages. I was hoping this place would pick up a bit 🤔
It’s just been allowed to die. I haven’t seen it being promoted anywhere since a link was placed on the Oatcake when I joined which resulted in quite a lot of registrations. Promotion is not a one off thing. There are numerous Stoke Facebook groups and other social media platforms it could be promoted on but again promotion would have to be continuous not just a start up exercise. Oh well I’ll just have to wait for the Oatcake to end it’s hunger strike.

Loads of people signed up here after that oatcake promotion but then nobody actually posted anything.

I’m not on any other social media really so I’m not the one to push it there and I’ve no idea what the admins plans are to grow this place… if there is a plan ?

Shame really, it could be good. We just need more people posting 🤔

Well nobody is going to do it for them if they can't be bothered or have given up on it themselves. With it not having a parent like proboards/rivals I'd imagine there is some costs (even if they're minimal) to keeping it alive. Very odd because there's obviously quite a lot of work gone into it.

Alster,

The Oatcake had suspended new registrations a long while ago. I was not quite one of the originals when the first Oatcake website/MB started (joined about 3 months in) and in those days the M/B was a completely different 'kettle of fish' Quite a few of the posters knew each other and if they didn't soon they did as we used to meet up (OBPU) . Believe it of not we invited a Vale contingent to the original ones. That's when I first met Glenn Oliver who later went on to become a Vale Director and alternatively Phil Rawlins who went on to become at Stoke Director. The whole vibe of the place was completely different than it is now. Poster were, by in large, more tolerant of each other. (although not always given a few characters that appeared) and it was well moderated by Smudge, Mark Wolstanton and Dave Frith who would regularly turn up at the OBPU's. But as things grow they change along with the format, the internet and society. I was a very active poster on there for many many years, I drew occasional cartoons for the Oatcake fanzine and compiled the odd article. I wrote more for Bunny's AVTAK but a fair bit of that was lifted and adapted from the UNPC Stoke City website that was tongue in cheek set up by me and a poster called BFB. This was in response to the Oatcake MB becoming more 'family friendly' orientated. However we still used to post and contribute on there regularly. What happened as Stoke City actually became a more successful team under Pulis (Rimmers and Wankstains anyone :) ) the M/B became much bigger and much more polarised. This became more apparent along with the politics and changes in society that were happening. Its a refection of society, to a degree, because posters became entrenched in their own views and completely intolerant of anyone having different ones. I left/flounced out/withdrew (take your pick ;) ) at the time of the Taking the Knee (and I'm not saying any more on that topic) and haven't been back since. I do occasionally visit to see what's going on. Its a shame because wading through endless shite by a few intolerant posters you can still find some really good discussions and points of few. I occasionally miss putting up comments on there purely because of the long history I have with the place. In conclusion it looks, however, that life is turning a full circle. The Oatcake M/B started (I think) when Stoke City FC were shite and in the old 3rd Division (at away games you would know most of the people around you) and it looks very much like that's where we are ending up again.

Great post Dave, very informative and interesting. I did read the oatcake fanzine (still have the first 100) but I was late to the whole internet thing so I joined online round about the championship / pre prem days. My only claim to fame is starting the ‘song name chain game’ on the EE board which unbelievably is still running.

There were and probably still are some great posters but I just got tired of every thread getting hijacked by the same people and then it descending into a slanging match so I left. I moved to the 1863 board and still visit every now and again but I had hoped this place would take off and become a bit bigger but sadly it’s just not happening.

I’m on the Southern Stokies WhatsApp group ( odd as I live north of Stoke on Trent ) and a Facebook messenger group ( odd as I’m not on Facebook anymore ) so I do find some great debates with tolerant posters but it would be great to have a few more here aswell.

Maybe it’ll pick up one day, maybe admin will do another promotional push ?

It’s moderated by wankers just looking for some offence against PC to shut down posters who’s views they don’t like.

Oatcake a load of nonsense

Chigstoke worst of bunch

All kiss hughes asa
Well if you think your Hughes hating will go unchallenged you'll be disappointed here too. Produced the best football we've played in my lifetime. Many more fond memories from his time here than from all of 10 years under Pulis. It all went wrong but it was great whilst it lasted. nothing lasts forever not even Pulisball ask WBA fans.

Hughes gave us some brilliant football . Arnie, Shaq and Bojan rotating across the front was beautiful to watch.
He seemed to lose the plot at the end but those three consecutive ninth places are a million miles away from where we’ve ended up since.
I guess many see him as the bloke who relegated us too though.
