Ronnie Whelan scored in the 86th minute to defeat City at the Victoria Ground. Stoke put up a strong performance against Liverpool with new on-loan goalkeeper Joe Corrigan making his debut due to Peter Fox’s back injury.

The defeat left the Potters at the foot of the table, a position they would not leave again all season.

Crap season for Stoke but a season I strangely enjoyed. Having a Boothen End season ticket I was there for every game. I think that season hardened me up for the years to come 😂

I was at most home games that season but missed the Boxing day win against the Shit. To be honest the gallows humour around that season was pretty funny at times. I was 22 and took things a lot more seriously then as I do 40 years later

The Norwich home game that season broke the lowest attendance record for a top flight game at the time. Around 4500 if I remember right. One of those games I genuinely am proud to say ‘ I was there’.

Funny thing is when you talk about that season the amount of people that claim to have been at that game is phenomenal. I reckon the crowd should have been closer to 20,000 if all are to be believed 😂

I think it was the opening game of the season in 1980 I went up to Carrow road for the first time. We got stuffed 5 v 1 . It was the days of the 70's/80's football specials. Took bloody ages to get home basically sitting in a carriage with missing windows and no lights.

My first and only visit to Norwich was the 85/86 season, a long drive in the back of a van with a load of other lads.

Can’t remember the score but I do remember the police dogs were Rottweilers !
